Beltangady, Nov 1: Expediting the re-investigation into the sensational Sowjanya death case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) recreated the crime scene and conducted a spot inspection (mahazar) at the exact location where her body was discovered 14 years ago. Sowjanya was a resident of Pangala in Dharmasthala village.

The process was carried out on Friday in the Mannasanka forest near the Netravati river. The SIT, led by investigating officer Lokesh Jagalasar, meticulously examined the spot.

Purandara Gowda and Tukaram Gowda, a relative and the original complainant who were the first to spot the body, were brought to the location to gather firsthand information about the events of that day. The geographical conditions of the area were analysed, and crucial evidence, including soil samples, was collected for forensic examination.

The entire process was conducted in the presence of experts from the Bengaluru Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team, doctors, the village administrative officer, panch witnesses, and a photography and videography team.

Prior to the spot inspection, a preparatory meeting was held with the concerned officials. The area was completely cordoned off with police tape to restrict public access. The inspection and mahazar procedures in the Mannasanka forest lasted for several hours.
