Beltangady: Justice for Sowjanya - Rally for CBI probe witnesses gigantic crowd

Beltangady, Oct 25: Thousands of people gathered in Beltangady on Friday October 25 in demand for CBI probe into the sensation case of Sowjanya who was raped and murdered near Dharmasthala last year. Along with the massive protest in which people from across undivided Dakshina Kannada participated, bandh was observed in Beltangady taluk throughout the day.

Emotions ran high as protestors urged that along with the case of Sowjanya, cases of Vedavalli Harale and Padmalatha together with about 450 cases of missing people in Dharmasthala and around should be handed over to the CBI under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge.

Addressing the protest rally, Sri Esha Vittaldas Swamiji of Kemar Sandeepani Sadhanashrama said, "I have said no to worshipping at feet and have given place for society in my heart. There is no place on earth as holy as the lap of a mother. May no child be meted out injustice like Sowjanya. Let us continue our protest until we get justice, until the case is handed over to the CBI."

"If you can see and feel oppression and injustice happening society, it means that you are on the right path. As I have taken up Sanyasa, there is no question of retreating regardless of the threats on the way. God is not a being who instills fear but one who inculcates love. One should not speak against God," he said.

'Evidence destroyed, ministers should resign'

Hindu leader Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi who presided over the protest said that the chief minister should 'discipline' the police department which 'supports rapists and murderers'.

"Ministers Vinay Kumar Sorake and Abhayachandra Jain should accept their shortcomings and resign. The evidence in the Sowjanya case has already been destroyed and the main witness, Ravi Poojary, a resident of Dharmastala committed suicide four months ago. The next protest will be on national level," he said.

Support from MLAs

"The Sowjanya case has gained momentum due to the support of MLAs Vasanth Bangera and Shakuntala Shetty. The truth must be revealed. The CBI enquiry should be monitored by a Supreme Court judge on a daily basis. The strength of the protest will increase and will include vehicle rally and other forms. The society is in the dark. We will not rest until there is light," he said.

Author Atradi Amrita Shetty said that to ask for justice for one child, such a large number of people were required after one year. "This is not our loss but the loss of people's representatives elected by us. In our country girls are not treated on par with boys, but Tulunadu is different. This land reveres mothers. There should be no more incidents like Sowjanya in Tulunadu," she said.

Vishnumurthi, a protestor, urged the concerned to conduct sincere investigation and retain the prestige and dignity of Dharmasthala. President of Human Rights Protection Mission Prakash Chennithala promised support for Sowjanya case on the national level.

Sowjanya's father Chandappa Gowda, mother Kusumavathi, Human Rights Protection Mission vice-president Mansoor Ahmed, human rights activist P B D’Sa and Dr Harale were present.

Ravi Poojary Baremelu welcomed the gathering. Srinivasa Kadirudyavara read an appeal addressed to the President of India.

Tight police security was deployed at the venue. Rice and contributions were collected in support of the protest. Coconuts were broken invoking gods and goddesses.

Bandh

The bandh was observed in Beltangady, Ujire, Guruvayanakere, Aladangadi, Madanthyaru and Poonjalkatte urging for CBI enquiry in the case.

All shops, business establishments remained closed and few vehicles could be seen on the roads as private buses and auto rickshaws also supported the bandh. Government buses were plying as usual.
The bandh was led by Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi.

It is a very good sign that people are fedup and have now taken upon themselves and taken to the roads with the administration in their pitiable handling of hundreds of mysterious cases that have been happening in the area since the last more than a decade!! There is definitely much more than meets the eye and it is high time the entire mystery is opened and brought before the general public!!

I am dumb, my eyes are wet. Look at the crowd and look at our people's unity. No religion, no politics, but, fight for justice. Great going my dear people. Don't stop. Let the guilty be hanged in broad day light and justice be done to our little girl's soul. Mr. Mahesh Shetty, you deserve salutes. A real fight against the strong, evil Monsters. Though I am very far from you people, my prayer and good wishes are always with you. Hope our Home Minister will wake up now and hand over the case to CBI. Unlike other Swamiji who fear backlash from powerful and wealthy people involved in this heinous crime, respected Sri.Sri.Sri Kemar Swamiji is standing strong against injustice. I would consider myself lucky if I could meet you during January when I will be in India. I will always keep in my prayer those who think I am shedding crocodile tears and those who says they know what type of person I am. Your comments won't affect my will & desire to support those who struggle for justice. Vandhe Maataram ! Jai Hind !! Jai Karnataka.

The way the blame game is going on i think this is a kind of political game going on to malign the present govt.. since the murder has happened an year ago no one is talking about the then govt or home ministers failure... since he was the main culprit not taking on proper action in giving justice to sowjanya...
Atleast the present govt should have looked into this matter seriously to give justice to sowjanya but they are only interested in eating the $#!t$ of what the previous govt has left..

but at the end it reminds me a HIndi Movie acted by Sanjay Dutt as a sincere police officer called 'KURUKSHETRA"

I wish when the justice has to come i hope the parents of sowjanya wont take money and take their case back.
It is INdia anything can happen THe only money stops every wholes of the human....

Nobody is above the law, this is what Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said. If the Prime Minister is ready to face Justice then why not the Sowjanya's rapist and Murder cannot.

In democracy it is public opinion which matters. It is disgusting to see that people have to come on streets to beg for justice. Looking at the large crowd who are protesting without the barrier of caste and religion, I am sure Siddu government has no way but to hand over this case to CBI.The sooner they do it, the better.

The criminals are almost surrounded and it is matter of days that they would be sent to gallows. Sowjanya and all the innocent girls who were raped and killed must get JUSTICE. The CBI must come in soon and catch all the criminals who are roaming free & should be sentenced to death.
On 24th October 2013 our PM Mr. Manmohan Singh said that he is not above law and ready to face CBI on Coal Scam. Therefore The rapists and murderers must surrender if not the people of this Nation will teach a Lesson of life to those Brutal Rapists cum Murderers. Jai Ho Sri Esha Vittaldas Swamiji of Kemar - you are Great. Jai Ho Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, Vasant Bangera and Shakunthala Shetty. Now those involved Corrupt Ministers & Police Officials should resign immediately. God is Great. Jai Tulu Nadu - Jai Kannadigas - Jai Karnataka.
