Beltangady: Sowjanya case will be discussed in parliament: Prakash Karat

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (EP)

Beltangady, Oct 28: Prakash Karat, national general secretary of CPI (M) has said that the Sowjanya case will be discussed in the parliament, if the state government does not take it seriously.

Karat was speaking after meeting and consoling the parents of the late Sowjanya at their residence at Pangala, Dharmasthala on Sunday, October 27. Sowjanya’s parents are reported to have said that they do not have faith in the ongoing investigations and feel that only a CBI enquiry will deliver them justice. Karat had asked them not to be scared and assured that his party would be with them until the culprits are brought to book.

“The investigations are not being conducted properly. The people of the state are urging for CBI enquiry. The state government is delaying the case without taking proper action. Several such incidents have occurred in the past too, and the incident is important considering that the police have not been investigating such incidents in the past. The family of Sowjanya and the people are urging for CBI enquiry as they do not trust the police any more. The state government should give due attention to the case, at least now,” he said.

"The investigation in Sowjanya case has been delayed for a year. We will not give room for such indifference any more. CPI (M) will be holding protests in the state to make the government take action. We will be discussing the matter with the chief minister and urging him to hand over the case to the CBI. We do not understand why the chief minister is in denial mode even though the people are protesting. The case will be taken to the parliament to draw the attention of the central government and to impart justice," he said.

G V Sriram Reddy, state secretary of CPI (M) said, “The state government and other political parties are scared to speak against influential forces which have hindered fair investigation. The government and the ministers are speaking for those forces against which the people are expressing their suspicions. It is an example of how low the political parties have stooped.”

“The people in Dakshina Kannada are fighting for justice setting aside their differences. Everybody believes that the truth will come out only with CBI enquiry. The government and the ministers of the district should recognize their voice at least now and realize that no politics stands in front of the opinion of the people. The struggle shall continue until justice is obtained,” he said.

CPI (M) state secretary G V Srirama Reddy, leaders Vasanth Achary, B M Bhat, Shivakumar, Sukanya, DYFI district president Munir Katipalla, Shekhar Laila and author Atradi Amritha Shetty were present.

Karat Saab, appreciate your intention to discuss the Sowjanya’s rape and murder matter in Parliament. Same time you have to condemn, all MPs’ and MLA’s of our region not discussing the matter in Parliament and Assembly accordingly. But one thing we are surprised to see that people who condemned Pub and Home Stay Attacks, took out Morcha, etc are now missing in action. Are they retired from public services or forced to keep quite due to high level involvement in this case and in Manipal rape case too?

People who condemned Pub and Home Stay Attacks, took out Morcha, etc are now missing in action because those days 'nikamma' & goonda govt. who was in favor of goonda raaj was reluctant to give justice to innocent people. However, now the govt. is doing justice and goondas are gone underground. No need for protest and morcha against attack on innocent people by 'hafta vasooli' groups. Jai ho Siddhu sir and team.

Two decades ago the communist party's active worker Devanand's daughter Padmalatha was raped for 40 days and then murdered just to teach lesson to her father Devananda. At that time Communist Party should have raked up the issue at national level. But they did not do it and let down their own comrade Devanand. Had they put pressure on Govt two decades ago to properly investigate Padmalata murder case and punish real culprits, then atleast 400 lives of innocent girls would have been saved, because more than 450 girls have died in Dharmasthala/Belthangadi since last 10 years.

If a complaint is filed against you me , we will be called to the police station and interrogated. Why some are above the law? Why these alleged youth are not interrogated? Is this because they will open their mouth?
Will these youth stand in front of Annappa Swamy and tell us the truth. It is time to choose a independent candidate for next LS elections to have a proper investigation of 450 deaths in the area.

Prakash Karat is not from West Bengal but actually he is a Malyali born in Burma. He had his education in Madras. So, why he should concentrate on West Bengal alone ?

It is a pity the way this case is dragging for so long. I am sure by the time it is handed over to the CBI, it will become another Arushi Talwar case. No arrests because no evidence, although that case is different in nature.
However, I admire Mr. Karat, who has taken his time and given some sort of hope to the family and to Sowjanya's soul. Rest assured, because good deeds or bad, it will never go unnoticed and never goes without getting the right returns. The truth will one day come out.

We have enough parties here to be suffer from.We know well how you delivers justice in your own Kerala.

That is the tragedy of Communist parties in Dakshina Kannada....In the past also they supported poor people in the fight for their labour rights etc. like Beedi workers & Tile factory workers. But when it came to electing our leaders we always ignored them...
