Beltangady: Finally, Sowjanya case handed over to CBI

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady

Updated

Beltangady, Nov 6: After days of protests, petitions and public outbursts, the state government has finally handed over the sensational case of rape and murder of Sowjanya to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the top investigating agency of the country.

This was announced by home minister K J George on Wednesday November 6 at Davangere.

"Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a decision to hand over the high-profile case to the Central Bureau of Investigation," K J George told reporters after a review meeting with the district police here.

17-year-old Sowjanya had been found raped and murdered near Dharmasthala in October 2012. A year later, investigation into the case gained momentum after media began highlighting the issue and locals began rising in protest demanding CBI inquiry.

The government had first handed over the case to CID, which submitted its 15-page report last week, holding Santosh Rao, who was arrested soon after the incident, as the accused. It gave clean chit to Nischal Jain, nephew of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, and to Mallik Jain, Uday Kella and Dheeraj Jain, all of whom had been named by the victim's parents and other local leaders like Mahesh Thimarodi.

Harshendra Kumar, brother of Dr Heggade, had appeared before the CID and presented records, including passport, visa and bank transactions of his son (Nischal Jain) in the US to show he was not in the country when the crime was committed.

Various organizations together with MLAs Vasanth Bangera and Shakuntala Shetty, had been calling for CBI inquiry into the case, alleging that CID inquiry had been just an eye-wash. The entire Dakshina Kannada district as well as Udupi and even Bangalore have witnessed several massive protests demanding justice.

Earlier this week, Dr Veerendra Heggade too had written a letter to the chief minister urging for a transparent and thorough CBI inquiry into the case.

Sowjanya's uncle Vittal Gowda expressed dissatisfaction with the government's decision and said the case should be handled by a committee monitored by the Supreme Court. "I don't know whether CBI will conduct the probe without any political influence or pressure. The Supreme Court should give directions to form a committee and monitor the investigations," he said.

Speaking to daijiworld, MLA Vasanth Bangera welcomed the government's decision and added, "This was expected, it was only a matter of time before the case would have been handed over to the CBI. I am sure that justice will be done and all speculations will be put to rest. But people need to have patience as it may take sometime."

Thimarodi, speaking to daijiworld, said that the government handed over the case to CBI after Dr Veerendra Heggade wrote to the CM.

He further said it was a victory for him and others who have been leading the struggle, but still, it does not ensure that justice would be done. "The CID inquiry was not complete and had many loopholes. We have planned a massive protest at Nehru Maidan on November 9 where one lac people will gather to demand justice for Sowjanya. The government has been trying to curb our struggle," he said.

After the lapse of one year, will there be any evidence left for CBI proof? Only a fool can think that truth will come out. Those who have planned this ghastly act must have wiped out every trace of evidence, eliminated witness. Clean.

Nowadays the CBI became agent of Congress, hence it was easy to handover the case to CBI, but for sure the report will never bring out the truth as long as congress remains in power. Definitly they loose many votes if truth comes out. That is how the law works in our country. Poor people are really helpless, no value for poor girl's life.

This is the best decision. But do not expect results immediately. The public voice ultimately prevailed. Now stop the agitation. But watch the developments. There are black sheep are there in CBI, but now they are accountable. First they have investigate why the medical evidence has been destroyed. For that they have question investigation officer and SP. If CBI does not crack the case let Soujanya's file petition in High Court, so the real culprits will be booked.

First thing what CBI has to do is investigate Thimarodi's real intentions behind massive protests.
There were 450 un-natural deaths in Dharmastala, Belthangady surroundings & he was not at all bothered to escalate it, why he is so aggressive in Sowjanya case?
Already case has been handed over to CBI as per public demand, then why rally again? Why he was not taken this issue up in this aggressive manner, when this incident took place?
    Something fishy...

Will CBI get any evidence on this rape/murder case after 1 year?

Dear Chandu Shetty, We are with you in securing justice to Sister Soujanya and her family. Now that CBI is going to do the whole investigation, why not wait until the truth comes out? Why again hold protests and waste everyone's time. It cannot be ruled out that there are certain people who are trying to pursue their own interests in this whole issue and most of them are trying to get a political mileage from this issue. We need to carefully observe each one's intention, and be patient until CBI gets their report out.

Let us pray for the soul of Sowyjanya and for the family members, its a big loss who had so much of love and dedication among themselves. CBI or CID there are many ways to show all culprits are innocent. Its like one of the hindi movies, four boys go for movie they show their presence while entering and exiting, but during pitch dark part of the movie they exit, they do their part of rape and murder and come back again to their seat, a good movie is over and they show their faces while finally exiting the movie hall. Now who will say they have committed this crime. There comes the Robinhood and finishes the culprits, so I hope Good God will send a curse of act on the criminals, so also on those who are trying to hide the truth and not forgetting to curse the culprits family members who are giving false information and trying to destroy the truth. God Bless accordingly.

CBI has a very easy task. They need not go into the details of the crime and who did what at this stage. Gather all the DOCUMENTS presented as evidence of innocence and conduct a forensic audits o find out if they are genuine.
Find out which witnesses and the accused are
    Not telling the truth..
Find one crack and they will find a motorway behind that.
The passport, all the stamps on it, bank transactions, tamper proof stitching of the pages be put under magnifying glass.

CBI may harass some big people connect with case finally it’s a court who will examine the evidence and report their status . I strong feel government also knew that sensitivity of people , it's also showing bad light KAR police and people may demand a similar voice in near future . Its a big conspiracy some greedy people who simply make an issue for publicity stunt .

There are two ways to slide easily through life to believe everything or to doubt everything. Both ways save us from thinking.

    Vasanth Raj :- Agreed,
Money & Power is stronger than CID/CBI/FBI.
But Now hopefully the truth will come out of the CBI investigation because of Public power.

Police, COD, CID, CBI all are human beings. I just wonder if the rest of the team (COD, CID etc) did not bring out the truth then what is the guarantee that CBI will bring out the truth?.I may be wrong but can someone clarify me please?. Let's say tomorrow CBI report also reflect CID report then can we say that is the justice? if not who else will come to bring the truth out?. I am very confused on how the entire system works.

100% Sowjanya family will not get justice. When Money - Power speaks, even FBI also, cannot get justice.

You are right, CBI will start gathering evidence and prepare pages of reports to reports it takes months to years slowly slowly all will forget, the case will remain mystery like ARUSHI TALWAR murder case Delhi,DPS school girl. Please pray all Soujanya & her fly can get justice asap.

Good decision by the State govt.
at least the truth will come out and doubts will be cleared. Soujanyas parents will get justice and false allegation made on the dignified persons will also cleared.
But if CBI also d arrested Santhosh Rao only committed this crime, what would be the next! FBI inquiry? Because some people trying to become a popular leader in the name of Soujanya, they will keep this issue alive forever for their personal benefit.

If i was a CBI officer i would not go into an in-depth inquiry again. It is a waste of time.
Give the third degree punishment to the CID officers who have made the enquiry and within a day they will open their mouth and the truth will come out. Very easy and simple.
