Sullia, Aug 6: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested another key absconding accused in connection with the 2022 murder of BJP worker Praveen Nettaru of Bellare in Sullia taluk, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 25.
The accused has been identified as Ummar Farooq M R. He was arrested during an operation in Kochi, Kerala, based on specific intelligence inputs.
A Red Corner Notice (RCN) and a non-bailable warrant had been issued against Ummar Farooq, who had been absconding. The NIA had also announced a reward of Rs 4 lac for information leading to his arrest.

Earlier, the NIA had filed a chargesheet against Ummar Farooq under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the conspiracy behind the murder.
According to the investigation, Ummar Farooq had participated in a conspiracy meeting along with the other accused at the office of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in Sullia town, where the plot to murder Praveen Nettaru was allegedly hatched.
