Kasargod, Oct 3: Two migrant workers were killed after a borewell lorry lost control and overturned onto a roadside house near Varakkad Junction in West Eleri village in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Devendran from Madhya Pradesh and Manasir from Chhattisgarh. Both were reportedly working as labourers on the borewell lorry.

The borewell lorry was returning after completing work when it suddenly lost control while negotiating a steep downhill road near Varakkad Junction. The lorry overturned onto the house belonging to a person named Jason, located beside the road.

The two workers travelling in the lorry sustained serious injuries in the impact and died while being taken to hospital.

A portion of the roof of the house completely collapsed in the accident. However, fortunately, Jason and his family members, who were inside the house at the time, escaped unhurt and survived the accident. A major tragedy was reportedly averted as the heavy crane portion of the lorry became lodged against the side of the terrace.

Police and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and cleared the lorry. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
