Mangaluru, Oct 2: St Agnes School (CBSE) Bendore, commemorated Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 in the school auditorium, honouring the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and paying tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birth anniversary is observed on the same day. The celebration was a thoughtful reflection on the enduring ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, simplicity, self-discipline and selfless service that continue to inspire generations.
The programme commenced with a solemn prayer service, seeking God’s blessings and invoking the spirit of peace, justice, truth and compassion. Readings from the Bible, Bhagavad Gita and Quran brought forth the universal message of righteousness, duty, justice and peaceful coexistence. Special prayers were offered for peace, courage, honesty, kindness, self-reliance and personal growth, setting a reverent and meaningful tone for the celebration.



















































The ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed, symbolising the dispelling of ignorance and darkness through the radiance of knowledge, wisdom and truth. Principal Sr Jenifer Moras AC and vice principal Sr Meena Fernandes AC paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri as a mark of profound respect and remembrance.
A graceful welcome dance added vibrancy and elegance to the occasion. This was followed by the welcome address delivered by Lisha Shetty, who extended warm greetings to the gathering. Principal Sr Jenifer Moras AC was accorded a gracious welcome with a potted blossom presented by Stuthi Shetty as a gesture of respect and appreciation.
The significance of Gandhi Jayanti was eloquently highlighted by Rumana, who delivered an insightful speech on Gandhiji’s remarkable contribution to India’s freedom struggle through Satyagraha and the path of non-violent resistance. Her words offered the audience an opportunity to reflect upon the extraordinary strength of peaceful resistance and unwavering conviction.
The message was further brought to life through a captivating dance presentation, 'The power of truth and non-violence'. Through the language of music, movement and expression, the performers poignantly portrayed how truth and non-violence can become powerful instruments for social transformation.
Addressing the gathering, principal Sr Jenifer Moras AC urged the students to go beyond merely remembering Gandhiji’s ideals and to embody them in their everyday lives. She encouraged them to uphold honesty, practise peace and non-violence, respect one another and refrain from judging others. She also emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness, taking responsibility for one’s actions and cultivating the qualities necessary to become conscientious, compassionate and responsible citizens of the nation.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Aarvi N G, followed by the Swachh Bharat pledge, which reinforced Gandhiji’s enduring message of cleanliness, discipline and civic responsibility. The celebration culminated with the national anthem, filling the gathering with a renewed sense of patriotism and collective responsibility.
The celebration served as a meaningful tribute to the ideals and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. More than a commemoration, it became an opportunity for the students to reflect upon the values that shape a harmonious and responsible society.
