Byndoor, Oct 2: Kollur police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a case involving the alleged abduction of a stray cow by forcibly dragging it into a car within the limits of Kollur police station.
The incident reportedly took place at around 1:30 am on September 29. CCTV footage showing unidentified persons arriving in a white Swift Dzire car and allegedly dragging a stray cow from the roadside before loading it into the vehicle had gone viral on social media. Based on a complaint from local residents, Kollur police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, Sections 4, 5 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Prevention of Cattle Act, 2020, and Section 66(1) read with 192(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Acting on the CCTV footage and other information, police traced the vehicle allegedly used in the offence and arrested the main accused, Mohammed Sinan (20), a resident of Thotada Mane, Gulwadi post and village, Kundapur. The vehicle allegedly used in the offence was also taken into custody.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Kundapur deputy superintendent of police H D Kulkarni and the supervision of Byndoor circle inspector Shivakumar. Kollur police sub-inspector Vinay M Korlahalli led the investigation team, comprising head constable Nagendra and constables Rudresh, Naveen Kumar, Vilas Rathod and Nagaraj.
The accused was produced before the jurisdictional court. Police said that two more persons are allegedly involved in the case and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.
According to police, Mohammed Sinan is also allegedly involved in five other cattle theft cases registered at different police stations under the Kundapur subdivision.
