Ben Stokes Retirement

England captain Ben Stokes announced that he will retire from international cricket after the third Rothesay Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge. He made his international debut in 2011 and Test debut during the 2013 Ashes series. His retirement marks the end of one of the most remarkable careers in modern cricket.



CA Day 2026

Chartered Accountants Day is celebrated across India on 1 July every year. It marks the establishment of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in 1949 under an Act of Parliament. In 2026, ICAI celebrates its 77th Foundation Day, recognizing the contribution of Chartered Accountants in financial governance, transparency, and India's economic growth.



National Doctors' Day 2026

National Doctors' Day is celebrated in India on 1 July every year. The theme for 2026 is 'Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healers?'. The day honours doctors for their dedication and service to society.



International Asteroid Day 2026

International Asteroid Day is observed with the 2026 theme 'Planetary Defence and Asteroid Impact Hazards'. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2016, it commemorates the 1908 Tunguska asteroid event in Siberia, the largest recorded asteroid impact in modern history.



Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

On 4 July 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket. At 15 years and 99 days, he received his T20I cap against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record.



e-OCI Card

The Government of India launched the Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Card. It allows eligible OCI cardholders to securely carry a digital version of their OCI card on smartphones. Existing OCI holders can obtain it through the official OCI Services Portal.


Aadhaar App Update

UIDAI now allows Aadhaar holders to add or update their email addresses using the official Aadhaar App without visiting an enrolment centre. The service is free from 1 July 2026 for six months. UIDAI was established on 28 January 2009, became a statutory authority on 12 July 2016, and its first Chairperson was Nandan Nilekani.

 

125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee

India commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on 6 July 2026. He was the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta at age 33, served as India's first Minister for Industry and Supply, founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, and is remembered for the slogan: 'One country, no two constitutions, no two leaders, no two emblems.'



ICMR-MINDS

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) received the Gold Award at the National Awards for e-Governance 2026 in the category 'Innovation through the Use of AI and Other New Age Technologies to Deliver Citizen-Centric Services'.



UNCTAD

India will chair the Ninth Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy organized by UNCTAD. India's AI-powered eJagriti platform strengthens consumer dispute resolution by speeding up complaint processing.



Global Passport Index 2026

India ranked 125th among 197 countries in the Global Passport Index (GPI) 2026 published by Global Citizen Solutions.



Special Intensive Revision (SIR)

Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is an exercise by the Election Commission of India to verify and update electoral rolls through house-to-house enumeration, pre-filled forms, and verification of voter data. The nationwide process was announced on 27 October 2025 by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
