Mangaluru, Aug 26: Acting on a customer's complaint about finding a cockroach in the sambar, the district food safety designated officer Dr Praveen Kumar conducted a surprise raid on Vrindavan Hotel at Thokkottu in Ullal.

The official, accompanied by his driver, pulled down the hotel shutters at 1:30 pm and carried out a thorough inspection of the kitchen.

Speaking to the media, Dr Praveen Kumar confirmed that the raid was initiated following the customer's grievance. During the inspection, it was found that the hotel lacked a separate storage room for food items, and ingredients were piled up haphazardly across the kitchen.

The officials had all the improperly stored food items cleared and ensured the kitchen was completely washed and cleaned. The hotel owner was given strict directions to arrange and store food items systematically in separate areas.

Citing the failure to maintain basic hygiene, Dr Praveen Kumar stated that a notice has been issued to the hotel owner, and a case will be filed in the court of the additional deputy commissioner (ADC).

A thorough investigation is required. There were instances at Indira Canteen whereby jealous opposition party goons brought dead cockroaches and mixed with their meals and raised a complaint to the police.

Hotel Vrindavan was one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Thokkottu. Well behaved staff, well cleaned and kept tables, very good food and the location... everything made it great. I dont know what happened... in last 15 or 20 years the restaurant has become pathetic. Two years back i drove all the way to the restaurant just to get that nostalgia, instead i got diarrhea!!
