1. National Handloom Day 2026

National Handloom Day commemorates the anniversary of Swadeshi Movement, which started on 7 August 1905 in Calcutta Town Hall.

Some of the well-known handloom cultures are as follows,

Banarasi Silk (Uttar Pradesh) – For luxurious silk sarees with zari embroidery.

Kanchipuram Silk (Tamil Nadu) – For colourful silk sarees with gold borders.

Jamdani (West Bengal) – For delicate muslin weaving and flowers patterns.

Sambalpuri Ikat (Odisha) – For its famous tie and dye method of weaving.

Pochampally Ikat (Telangana) – For geometrical patterns of weaving.

Paithani (Maharashtra) – For silk sarees woven with designs of peacock and lotus.

Chanderi and Maheshwari (Madhya Pradesh) – For elegant weaving styles.

Muga Silk (Assam) – For its golden color.

Bhagalpuri Silk (Bihar) – For eco-friendly Tussar silk.

Kota Doria (Rajasthan) and Kasavu (Kerala) – For its unique traditional patterns.

Bandhani (Gujarat) – For its meticulous tying and dyeing of fabric using traditional methods.

 

 

2. GOBARdhan Scheme

the GOBARdhan (Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan) – National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, with an allocation of Rs 23,731 crore.

Objectives of the GOBARdhan Scheme

The following are the strategic objectives of this scheme,

Increase domestic production of CBG nearly ten times.

Decrease reliance on imports of natural gas and other fossil fuels.

Scientific management of agriculture and municipal solid waste.

Private sector involvement in the bio-energy industry.

Creation of jobs in rural areas.

Achieve India’s climate targets by decreasing greenhouse gases emissions.

Enhance the circular economy through utilization of biomass.

 

3. World Lion Day 2026

The World Lion Day 2026 observed on August 10th and the day highlights the conservation efforts of lions and the threats that are faced by these creatures in their natural habitats. Lions are one of the most famous felines in the world and they have an important role to play as the apex predators in the ecosystem. However, habitat loss, lack of prey, human wildlife conflict, diseases, poaching, and climate change pressures continue to threaten survival of these lions.

 

4. Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards 2024-25

Sangeet Natak Akademi is India’s national institution of music, dance and drama. The awards are awarded for exceptional and distinguished work done in the field of performing arts.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi awards have been conferred from 1952 onwards. The Sangeet Natak Akademi awards include both classical music and dance along with theatre, folk and tribal traditions and other associated performing arts.

The highest award from the Sangeet Natak Akademi is called Akademi Fellowship or Akademi Ratna. A Fellow is given Rs 3 lakh whereas an Akademi Award includes a prize money of Rs 1 lakh and a Tamrapatra & Angavastram.
