Bengaluru: EVMs cannot be tampered with - Senior IPS officer D Roopa

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 23: D Roopa Moudgil, currently working as director general of police, railways (Bangalore region), through a tweet, has said that electronic voting machines (EVM) cannot be tampered with. "All the officers working in All India service and state service know this fact as they have learnt by experience when discharging duties as election officers. None of them will allow hacking to take place and endanger their careers. At the same time, do you think it is possible to buy all the officials?" she countered through her tweet, apparently referring to suspicions being expressed in various quarters about the reliability of EVMs.

While many have liked Roopa's tweet and retweeted it, some have wondered why she is trying to poke her nose into this issue. In reply, Roopa said that her tweet should not be viewed from political angle.

Actually, Roopa had shared an article which appeared in a web publication along with her first tweet in which opinion of IAS officer, Bhavesh Mishra, a 2015 batch officer, by way of attachment. She has been clarifying various points raised by the readers. Some have told her that she is wrong in expressing her opinion in the matter being a government servant.

It may be recalled that Roopa had shot to fame after she reported irregularities in Parappana Agrahara prison including extension of facilities and luxury to certain political personalities with the tacit involvement of top officials illegally.

EVM has 2 components : a control unit and a ballot box. Voters press button on ballot box and vote is stored. After the vote is stored, the control unit becomes inactive until the person incharge activates it again for next voter.

Both control unit and ballot box are highly secured and you wont be able to temper with it. But not the 5 meter cable joining the control unit and ballot box. So, your only chance lies in hacking that cable without touching it physically.

This is totally possible. Lets understand some electronics of EVM. A ballot box can have upto 16 candidates. It is joined by a single cable to control unit. This cable transfers data serially. This means for first cancidate 0000 is send, 0001 for next and so on till 1111 for last. Each port receiving this data adds two more bits as port identifier. there are 4 ports in control unit and hence total number of candidates is 64.

If you have understood above thing then lets read some physics.

Data travelling from cable generates very weak magnetic field. Why ? Google it. A wire clipper or hanger looking like magnetic field scanner can be or have been designed. You just need to clip the cable and it can tell about the data being sent. Also, a magnetic field generator can bombard the cable with required bit set.

Now you only need to know the bit set representing your candidate and bombard the wire with it. As soon as the control unit will be activated, a vote will be caste.
Nothing is Impossible in this world. Everyone is specialised in their own field and interests.

Does Genious Einstien Roopa know , why developed countries and most countries like USA, Germany etc all reverted back to Ballot papers?!!.. Because if pentagon site can be hacked these are merely machines which can be easily rigged with a simple broadcast device. However nothing wrong in her comment as she is in queue for net ticket.

EVM machine can be controlled. and automatically it can change vote in fair of party who made this idea. This software is developed such a way that after voting it will show what button we press it shows same. And once its uploaded to the memory of EVM with an hour it will automatically change vote to fairly party. and even EVM can connect through satellite like how we can take password Wi-Fi ......with its code...... this is how EVM machine is built ruling party friendly .........
so this will be a major backdrop for opposition party to win ........
Because ratio of opposition party winning margin is only 10 percent.......

First point EVM doesn't have internet facility, further there are more than 100000 machines, how can alter the result by some command through what ever wsy you say. Secondly in each constituency there is specific order of placement of the names of a particular party candidates, it goes by alphabatical order of the names of candidates
