Bratislava, Jun 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday was conferred Slovakia's highest national award, the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), during a ceremony in Bratislava.

The honour was presented to Modi by Peter Pellegrini in recognition of his contribution to strengthening ties between India and Slovakia.

Expressing gratitude after receiving the award, Modi said the honour belonged to the people of India.

“Honoured to receive The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) in Bratislava this evening. My gratitude to the people and Government of Slovakia for this honour, which belongs to the 140 crore people of India. I dedicate this award to the enduring friendship between India and Slovakia,” Modi said in a social media post.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister described the award as a reflection of the warmth, trust and affection shared by the people of the two countries.

He expressed confidence that the honour would inspire future generations in India and Slovakia to further strengthen their longstanding friendship.

The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) is Slovakia's highest civilian and military state decoration and is awarded exclusively to foreign nationals.

Modi is currently in Bratislava as part of his week-long visit to Europe. The trip marks the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia.

Earlier in the day, India and Slovakia elevated their relationship to a comprehensive partnership and signed 11 agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in key sectors, including migration, digital technology and defence.
