Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 18: Airports Authority of India has given permission for undertaking second phase construction work of the parallel taxi track at the international airport here. It has also given its nod for grading work of the basic strip located in the southern side, said director of the airport, J T Radhakrishna.

The total cost of works being taken up here is Rs 98 crore. First phase of the 1,200-metre long taxiway has already been completed and the airport is awaiting clearance from the Airports Authority.

Till now, the airport here had the facility only for six aircrafts to be parked at a time. Now, the capacity has been increased to eight, with two more bases having been created to the east. These bases await permission from the directorate general of civil aviation at present before they can be put to use.

Taxiways connect the runways and the hangar. With the increasing traffic at the airport here, new parallel taxiway comes in handy. Currently 25 flights are operated daily from this airport.

Why doesn't the govt start procuring land on a flat terrain in order to build a safe and big airport with a longer runway which can accommodate 777 / 330's?

In the 80's there were talks to build an airport near Padubidri. This hill-top airport with no land around it has no growth potential.

I feel we need to look at land north of Mangalore in order to build a safe world-class airport.

Good efforts but extend the runway which is the necessity of the hour. Look at the service after the landing especially at the belt.
maintain the greenery outside the airport especially garden.
