Puttur: KSRTC set to cover every single village

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Oct 28: Work on developing roads which help connect rural areas of Puttur, Beltangady and Sullia taluks are going on at full scale. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has undertaken the huge project of starting a second KSRTC unit here. As per this plan, KSRTC buses will cover all the villages in Sullia, Beltangady, and Puttur taluks.

The local MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor has planned to establish a second depot of KSRTC here with the aim of providing connectivity to every village. He has asked the revenue department to sanction 1.5 acres government site within three km from the KSRTC bus stand for this purpose.

Puttur KSRTC divisional office has been concentrating on rural places. Five KSRTC depots are working under it. Because of some technical reasons, new buses cannot be introduced in the new routes. Once the second KSRTC unit becomes functional, additional buses, spacious parking system, bus maintenance centre, and the administrative system will be provided. With this, additional buses can be run in these three taluks and additional buses or routes can be sanctioned to new villages.

Mangaluru and Puttur KSRTC divisional office is presently working. Both have been divided into five depots. In Mangaluru division, 1, 2, and 3 depots are there while Kundapur and Udupi too, have KSRTC depots. In Puttur KSRTC, depots are named Puttur, Bantwal, Sullia, Dharmasthal and Madikeri. If the second unit is started, new services will be introduced on roads that have been developed or being developed afresh.

Sanjeeva Matandoor said he has discussed the matter with KSRTC divisional controller, KSRTC chairman and transport minister, Laxman Savadi. He added that he is confident that steps will be taken quickly to open the second KSRTC unit here.

KSRTC should immediately start SWIPE CARD system like CHALO CARD for tickets. It is a big challenge for travellers as well as conductors to carry change.
Because KSRTC ticket charge ranges likr this - 11rupees 12 rupees, 21rupees, 23 rupees, 23 rupees....and so on....

For that, KSRTC should adopt a commission basis policy. Give one percent to the driver/conductor of the collection - they will wait for passengers than say 'stop not allowed'. They will welcome passengers, than resenting because it made them attend more.
