Dharamshala, Jun 14: India registered a commanding seven-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the opening One-Day International in Dharamshala, with captain Shubman Gill leading from the front with a match-winning performance.
Gill not only guided India to victory but also became the second-fastest batter in ODI history to reach 3,000 runs, achieving the milestone in just 62 innings. The Indian skipper continued his impressive form as India comfortably chased down the target despite rain interruptions during the match.
The victory gave India an early lead in the three-match series and showcased the team's dominance across departments. Gill's composed innings anchored the chase, while contributions from the rest of the batting unit ensured there were no late hiccups.

The match also witnessed another significant milestone as veteran opener Rohit Sharma crossed 16,000 international runs as an opener, joining an elite group of batters in world cricket.
Earlier, Afghanistan put up a competitive fight, with their batters showing resilience despite India's disciplined bowling attack. However, the hosts maintained control for most of the contest and completed the chase with ease.
The win marks a positive start to India's preparations for upcoming international assignments, with Gill once again underlining his importance to the team's ODI plans. The second ODI will provide Afghanistan an opportunity to level the series, while India will look to seal it with another strong performance.
