Mangaluru's first coronavirus-infected patient cured, discharged

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 6: The first ever coronavirus-infected youth registered in the district, who happens to be from Bhatkal, has been cured. He was discharged from the district Wenlock Hospital on Monday, April 6. The doctors who treated him are happy that their effort has borne fruits.

The first coronavirus positive case in the district was recorded on March 22. After this was announced by the deputy commissioner of the district, a sense of worry had set in. The 22-year-old youth from Bhatkal who had arrived by a flight from Dubai which landed at the local airport at 5.45 pm on March 19 had tested positive for coronavirus infection. He was admitted into the quarantine section of Wenlock Hospital through an ambulance of the health department. His throat swab was sent for testing and the result was positive. Individual details of all the 165 passengers who came by the same SpiceJet flight with him on that day were collected, and arrangements were made to check their health condition.

Wenlock Hospital has a team of over 25 doctors and over 30 nurses exclusively to treat coronavirus patients.

Hospital sources said that out of four people from Kasargod who came from flights on March 24 from Dubai and Saudi Arabia who tested positive, two have been healed. Their test reports are expected to be received on Monday, and if the result is negative, they are likely to be discharged on April 7.

With the youth discharged, the number of coronavirus patients in the hospital has come down to 11. District health officer Dr Ramachandra Bairy said that all other patients are in good health and responding well to the treatment.
