Air India mulls fine up to Rs 15 lakh on unruly fliers

New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI): National carrier Air India is considering imposing a penalty of up to Rs 15 lakh on unruly passengers for flight delays.

The latest proposal comes less than a month after Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad assaulted a staffer of the national carrier at the airport here.

Now, the airline is mulling to penalise passengers who delay flights and the amount could be up to Rs 15 lakh.

A fine of Rs 5 lakh would be levied for delay up to one hour and the amount would be Rs 10 lakh in case the delay is between one to two hours, airline sources said.

The fine would be Rs 15 lakh for more than two hours delay. Since the incident involving Gaikwad on March 23, the national carrier as well as the government have been exploring ways to bolster the existing mechanism to rein in unruly passengers.

It's a mere Joke. AI can fine only common man. Has AI got the guts or courage to fine the MP's . Secondly what did AI workers union do when their staff was beaten up. If a common man had slapped any of their employee their would have been a huge cry. This shows the bias attitude of the Union.

Because their negligence and arrogant pilots error 7year's back air India express and their staff killed 156 passengers. What they paid how they treated innocents passengers dependents.
For implementing such useless rule's there is aviation law. For international flights rules implemented with respect to Montreal Convention terms and condition. Aviation is not a sabji Mandi.

It is easy to talk but difficult to implement.
First of all does Air India have the authority to impose such fine? It is only a semi Govt company and not a low imposing body. Who has given them the authority to pass such rules?
Air India could not do anything to Goonda MP and Arrogant VIPs till now. How do they propose to implement such stupid ideas?
Anyway I wish them success if they can really implement it.

It's a very good news! For all the airline errors, even the airline should be made to pay 10 times more.

As a first step, let them first fine Mr, Ravindra Gaikwad. This is will set the precedence. Also, will set the real "Balls & Guts" theory right! Not on some innocent, ordinary passengers!

    People,

99.99% delay is due to Air-India staff....fine should be imposed on AI employees for every delay...they should be made to pay from their salaries...

Service wise AI is worst airline in the world....only solution for this is fire all AI employees and employ new employees from top to bottom...

There is no other way to save AI...

Well said, for silly reason they delay flight by giving falls reasons. So in that case they have to compensate to the passengers in this case.
