Historic milestone as Kanakadasa’s literary works translated into Konkani for first time

Bengaluru, May 19: In a significant development for Konkani literature and cultural preservation, the complete literary works of saint-poet Kanakadasa have been translated into Konkani language for the first time.

The translated volumes were officially released on May 15 during the 'Release of 40 Volumes of Kanakadasa’s Complete Literary Translation Series and unveiling of Kanaka Shilpavana' programme organised by the Saint Poet Kanakadasa and Tatvapadakara Study Centre, Bengaluru, at Kalagrama in Mallathahalli.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the programme and released the translated editions prepared in 14 languages, including Konkani. The Konkani edition was received by Konkani Academy president Joachim Stany Alvares from the chief minister.

Dr Geetha Shenai served as the editor for the Konkani translation project, while several Konkani writers and literary personalities contributed to the translation work.

Among the major works translated into Konkani are Mohana Tarangini, Kanakadasara Keerthanegalu and Mundigegalu, Nalacharitre, Haribhakta Sara, and Ramadhanya Charitre.

Minister for Kannada and culture Shivraj S Tangadagi, Kanakadasa Study Centre president Ka Ta Chikkanna, and several other dignitaries were present at the event.
