Six rescued from drowning incidents in Goa over weekend

Panaji, May 18: Six persons were rescued from drowning along the coastline of Goa and at the popular Dudhsagar Falls over the weekend, while Drishti Marine lifesavers also assisted several tourists in separate rescue and search operations.

At Dudhsagar waterfalls, a seven-year-old boy and his 28-year-old mother from Bengaluru were rescued after they began struggling in the water in a rocky area without life jackets. Lifesaver Devendra Naik entered the water with a rescue tube and safely brought both ashore.

At Baga Beach, an eight-year-old boy from Bengaluru who went missing was traced safely at nearby Candolim Beach by lifesavers Nehal Kubal and Siddesh Bhosle. The child was later reunited with his father in the presence of Goa Police.

In another incident, a four-year-old boy from Bihar who went missing at Calangute Beach was located safely at Baga beach after nearly an hour and reunited with his mother.

At Colva Beach, a seven-year-old girl from Sattari in Goa who got separated from her parents was reunited with them after beach marshals made public announcements. In a separate incident at the same beach, a 22-year-old woman from Karnataka who lost contact with her family was also safely reunited with them with the help of Drishti Marine personnel.

Lifesavers at Colva beach also helped return a missing mobile phone to its owner after it was found by a photographer and handed over to the beach tower.

At Galgibag Beach, a 22-year-old woman from Mumbai suffered a toe injury after stepping on seashell-covered stones. Lifesavers administered first aid before handing her over to friends.

At Hollant Beach, a 33-year-old man from Bengaluru sustained a stingray injury while swimming. Lifesavers rescued him from the water and provided first aid before shifting him through the 108 ambulance service.

In another incident at the same beach, two men from Kerala suffered jellyfish stings while swimming and were treated on the beach before being handed over to friends.

At Palolem Beach, a 28-year-old man from Pune was rescued after his kayak overturned around 400 metres from the shore. Lifesaver Satyan Khobrekar used a jet ski to safely bring him back.

In a separate operation in Canacona, Drishti Marine lifesavers helped trace a missing 47-year-old man from Uttarakhand. After his location was traced near a bridge, lifesaver Sarvesh Chopdekar found him sleeping underneath it. The man was later handed over to Goa Police and reunited with family members for further medical care.
