New Delhi, May 19: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has said that area coverage under summer crops has crossed 83 lakh hectares till May 15 this year.
According to the ministry, the total cultivated area under summer crops has increased by more than three lakh hectares compared to the corresponding period last year.
Rice cultivation was carried out across more than 31 lakh hectares, while pulses were sown over an area exceeding 24 lakh hectares.

The ministry further stated that cultivation of Shri Anna and coarse cereals covered over 16 lakh hectares, which is nearly one lakh hectares higher than the same period last year.
Meanwhile, oilseed cultivation was recorded across more than 11 lakh hectares during the ongoing summer season.
The Centre said the increase in cultivation reflects positive growth in agricultural activities across the country.
