Bengaluru, Apr 26: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court is set to pronounce the quantum of sentence for Mohammed Shariq, the convict in the Mangaluru cooker bomb blast case, on April 27. The court on Saturday accepted the plea bargaining application filed by the convict.
During the hearing on Saturday, Special Public Prosecutor Prasanna Kumar urged the judge to award the maximum possible punishment to the convict considering the gravity of the crime.

Three months ago, Shariq had filed an application before the NIA special court admitting to his role in the blast. The court recently accepted this plea of guilt.
The incident occurred on November 19, 2022, around 4:40 pm within the Kankanady police station limits in Mangaluru.
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed inside a pressure cooker exploded while Shariq was travelling in an auto-rickshaw. The NIA, which took over the investigation, had filed a chargesheet against Shariq in 2024.
