Udupi/Mangaluru, Aug 20: Rain intensified across the district, with heavy showers reported in several areas on Wednesday.

The district received good rainfall in the morning, followed by moderate showers. Heavy rain lashed several areas after noon, with rainwater flowing onto roads and disrupting vehicular movement.

Udupi city, Manipal, Hiriyadka, Alevoor, Malpe and Udyavar, along with Kundapur, Byndoor, Brahmavar, Kaup, Hebri and Karkala taluks, received good rainfall throughout the day.

Strong winds accompanying the rain on Wednesday afternoon damaged electricity lines at several places across the district, disrupting power supply.

In some parts of Eshwaranagar in Manipal, problems with electricity lines caused the power supply to trip immediately after being restored. MESCOM personnel were working to rectify the issue.

Several parts of the district also received good rainfall on Tuesday night. A cattle shed belonging to Parvathi Shetty of Navunda village in Byndoor taluk was partially damaged.

Dakshina Kannada district also received rain on Wednesday. Rain that began in Mangaluru city in the early morning continued heavily until around 10 am. It then eased briefly, with intermittent showers reported later.

Intermittent rain was also recorded across the district, including in Sullia, Bantwal, Beltangady, Kadaba, Puttur, Mulki and Moodbidri.

According to the India Meteorological Department forecast, a yellow alert has been issued for August 20, with good rainfall likely.
