1. Lahore Named SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for 2026–27

Lahore has been named the Tourism and Cultural Capital of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) for 2026-27, emphasizing the historical and cultural significance of this Pakistani city. The announcement regarding this was made in the 26th SCO Heads of States Council meeting held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. This was also the occasion when Pakistan became the chairman of the organisation for the next year, that is, 2026-27. Lahore, famous for its Mughal monuments, Sufi traditions, and colonial architecture, will be showcased in an entire year of cultural events organized to promote tourism, heritage, and cultural exchanges between SCO member countries.

 

2. Kerala to Set Up Coconut Park

The Kerala government set to develop a Coconut Park, facilitated by the Coconut Development Board, with the objective of ensuring that the state’s coconut industry gets more emphasis on processing, value addition, and export. Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan made the declaration while launching the country-wide celebrations of World Coconut Day 2026 on September 2. It is hoped that this Coconut Park would facilitate modern processing and generation of premium quality coconut products meant for export and create new opportunities for entrepreneurship and investments.

 

3. Olympic City to Be Established in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced on September 3, 2026, that a world-class Olympic City and a dedicated Motor Sports City will be established in Chennai. As reported by The Hindu, this ambitious plan aims to boost the state's sports infrastructure and help local athletes win global medals

Key Details of Olympic City Location:

It will come up at Semmencheri along the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) corridor.

Developer: The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) will build the project.

Facilities: It will feature international-standard arenas, high-performance training centers, and sports science labs.

Motor Sports City PlansGoal: The state wants to bring Formula 1 and other major racing events to Chennai.

Training: Young drivers will get professional training and racing chances.

Growth: The project aims to boost local tourism and vehicle manufacturing

 

4. Abhinandan Varthaman Joins FLY91 as Commercial Pilot

Former IAF Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman has joined Goa-based airline FLY91 as a pilot, sources said. The move follows the Vir Chakra awardee's retirement in March after his widely noted 2019 aerial combat role.

 

5. India to host ICC Women's Champions Trophy 2027 

inaugural six-team tournament to be held in Mumbai and Vadodara from 14-28 February.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 will be staged in the Indian cities of Mumbai and Vadodara from 14 to 28 February.

The Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will be the venues for the landmark tournament that will bring together six of the world’s leading women’s cricket teams - Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Those six teams, who qualified as per their positions in the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings on the 6 July qualification cut-off date, will compete in a round-robin league, with the top two sides advancing to the final on 28 February.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka but will now be staged in India as Sri Lanka Cricket continues to make the requisite reforms outlined at the ICC’s Annual Conference in July.

The ICC assessed three candidates - Bangladesh, India and South Africa - against its established host evaluation criteria before recommending India as the replacement host, a decision ratified by the ICC Board on September 2 .

 

6. The Archaeological Survey of India has notified Gollala Gudi Temple at Palampet in the Mulugu district of Telangana as a monument of national importance. The Ministry of culture said that the temple is situated near the UNESCO listed Ramappa Temple and is renowned for its exquisite carvings and architectural heritage.The temple is a Trikutalaya and consists of a mandapa facing East and surrounded by three garbhagriha.

A monument of national importance in the country is protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. The Archaeological Survey of India takes charge of such sites for conservation, maintenance, and regulated public access.
