Final electoral roll to confirm voter names in Goa on Feb 21

Panaji, Feb 15: Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Goel has stated that the official confirmation of a voter’s name in Goa’s electoral roll will be available only after the final roll is published on February 21, 2026.

Over 2.25 lakh notices were issued during the 2002 Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to unmapped persons or in cases of logical discrepancies. With all hearings now concluded, Goel said, “A reflection of one’s name in the final roll will be official confirmation.”

Voters who do not find their names in the final roll can file an appeal with the District Electoral Officer within 30 days of publication, and, if necessary, another 30-day appeal can be made to the Chief Electoral Officer.

The Election Commission of India had extended the date of final roll publication to February 21 for the SIR, with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date.

During the SIR exercise, more than 1 lakh voters’ names were deleted for various reasons: over 40,000 were found shifted, 29,000 were absent or untraceable, 25,000 were deceased, and 2,000 were already enrolled elsewhere. The largest number of deletions were recorded in Vasco, Cortalim, Fatorda, Santa Cruz, and Taleigao, while Sanquelim, Sanguem, Bicholim, Mandrem, and Priol recorded the fewest.

Additionally, 1,82,400 persons were declared unmapped. Although their names appeared in the draft rolls, they were issued notices and required to appear before electoral officers with relevant documents to retain their names in the final electoral roll.
