Rajkot, Feb 15: Three persons lost their lives and another sustained critical injuries after a speeding car rammed into a divider on a railway bridge in Gujarat’s Rajkot in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

According to preliminary findings, the impact was so severe that the vehicle broke into two separate pieces, which landed on opposite sides of the bridge. The car, carrying four occupants, was travelling from Junagadh to Jetpur when the driver reportedly lost control.

The deceased have been identified as Muskan Bagda, Arun Wala and Jaideep Chauhan. Muskan Bagda and Arun Wala died on the spot due to the force of the collision, while Jaideep Chauhan, who sustained grievous injuries, succumbed during treatment.

The fourth occupant, Amit Parmar, remains in critical condition. He was initially admitted to a government hospital and later referred to Junagadh for advanced medical care.

Police rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the accident. The wreckage was scattered across the roadway, leading to major traffic disruption. Personnel cleared debris and regulated traffic to restore movement along the busy stretch.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.

Officials said overspeeding appears to be the primary cause of the crash. The extent of the damage, including the vehicle splitting into two, indicated the high speed at which it was being driven.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rohit Dondiya, along with taluka police, has initiated a detailed probe to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal mishap.

Authorities have once again urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, particularly on highways connecting key towns in Gujarat, to prevent such tragic incidents.
