Bengaluru, May 23: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah along with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other ministers held a review meeting with all district Deputy Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers of Zilla Panchayats on drought relief works and preparations for agricultural operations in the State through video conference on Friday.

With the model code of conduct enforced due to the Lok Sabha polls being relaxed in the State, the Chief Minister directed the officials to get down to work and ensure that the people and farmers would not suffer.

Though the model code of conduct will be in force till June 6, the officials should concentrate on developmental work which was held up.

Monsoon in the State is better than usual this year and agricultural operations have commenced, Siddaramaiah said and asked the officials to be ready to extend all necessary assistance to farmers.

The Chief Minister set the task of implementing all the budget programmes, for which necessary orders must be issued by the end of June.

Referring to the death of one person and hospitalization of 40 persons due to drinking contaminated water in two villages of Mysuru district, he held the engineers responsible for the tragedy.

“Any laxity would be dealt with very seriously and guilty officials will be placed under suspension when such incidents are reported,” he said, warning the Deputy Commissioners that they will be held responsible for any similar incidents in the districts for their failure to supervise and monitor regularly.

The budget for the current year was presented in February and two months of the current financial year have already elapsed. The budget implementation work that is being done in the year must be executed in the remaining 10 months, he said and pointed out that there was no obstacles for issuing tenders for the budgeted programmes.

The Chief Minister said the officials must be vigilant and help the farmers in claiming crop insurance dues from insurance companies as any lapses would bring a bad name to the government.
