Bhubaneswar, Jul 2: The flood situation in Odisha has turned grim, with Gajapati and Balasore districts bearing the brunt of continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days. Rising river levels have severely impacted connectivity and submerged several villages.
In Gajapati district, the swelling waters of the Gadapur river have cut off road access to 11 villages, leaving more than 10,000 residents stranded and in distress. Rescue and relief operations are underway, but access remains a major challenge.

Balasore district has also seen widespread flooding, with nearly 100 villages in its northern region inundated by water from the Subarnarekha and Jalaka rivers. Several areas in Bhograi, Baliapal, Jaleshwar, and Basta blocks remain submerged, though officials said water levels have now started receding.
The Odisha government has sprung into action, setting up 17 relief camps to accommodate affected residents. Nearly 3,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas. Authorities are also ensuring the supply of essential services and relief materials to the flood-hit regions.
The situation continues to be monitored closely as efforts intensify to reach those still stranded in remote pockets.
