Political morality defeated by BJP horse-trading - Congress

New Delhi, Jul 24 (IANS): As the Congress-Janata Dal-Secular government in Karnataka lost its trust vote on Tuesday, the Congress accused the Centre, the BJP's central leadership, the Karnataka Governor and the Maharashtra government of acting together to enable the coalition's fall.

"Political morality and basic democratic values got defeated by the unscrupulous political horse-trading of the BJP in Karnataka," Congress General Secretary, Organisation, K C  Venugopal said in a statement.

Venugopal, who is also the in-charge of Karnataka and had been camping in Bengaluru since the 17 MLAs of the Congress and the JD-S resigned, said the "sabotage of a duly elected government in Karnataka carried out by the BJP is one of the most heinous and subversive instances of blatant political horse-trading the country has ever witnessed".

"The coalition government was brought down by the nefarious joint efforts of the Central government, the Governor, the state government of Maharashtra and Central BJP leadership."

He alleged that the BJP carried out this political drama by offering huge amounts of black money and ministerial berths to MLAs to defect, as well as "misusing central agencies like Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax for black mailing and coercing MLAs".

Venugopal said that the Congress and the JD-S fought on the floor of the house, in the Supreme Court as well as in the streets to uphold the democratic mores and values, and though the BJP won the numbers game, the Congress-JD(S) "had earned the moral victory".

He said that the party will hold nation wide protests against the "immoral, blatant and brazen political destabilisation" carried out by the BJP.

Venugopal Sir, with due respect to you. I don't think there is nothing like morality in politics. All are greedy for power, that is it. Sir, your party and communists fight election like arch rivals in state of Kerala and then join hands in the centre to defeat NDA. Everything is "fair" in politics for the "chair", be it any political party. All are the same. You people also did when you were strong, now face the music.

Its a joke that a party like Congress ,its chelas and ghulams are talking about 'morality'. When a party who won 70 seats goes with folded hands pleading to a party that has 30 seats to form a Govt unconditionally , is the biggest defeat of morality. The point of introspection is from here.

I am katta congress guy. But this is really really absurd and heart breaking to see we have such politicians, who would betray, forget the party but their own voters. It is time to make a law that punishes such activities. Such politicians must be thrown out of politics forever.

Their actions has shaken the very faith people have in the electoral system. You guys are pathetic. Stop blaming the BJP for horse trading. Yes the BJP has done horse trading and your ministers fell prey to it. So both are at fault. The sinner and the one who supported the sinner. You all are an insult to democracy.

Cong and JDS fought elections seperately, then came together just for power, betraying people's wish, after that, in general election they fought together and people of Karnataka totally rejected them....it indicates that people don't want to give power to cong.....they are fed up of their useless leadership and corruption....let cong and JDS fight the next assembly election together if they wish to form a ciolation govt...then again people will show their anger...

Lust for power and money works wonders! The love of money transcends all ideologies. For the MLAs , their party and its ideology did not matter in the end. All that mattered was power and money and people's welfare of the constituency that elected them.
