Recipes - Chicken in Green Masala


½ kg. chicken (medium pieces)
1 small potato (cubed)
½ cup curd
1 small onion (sliced)
1 small tomato (cubed)
1-2 tbsp. ghee or oil
Salt as per taste

To grind:

½ cup grated coconut
1 small onion
1 cup chopped coriander leaves
½ cup chopped mint leaves
3-4 flakes garlic
¼ “ ginger
2-3 green chillies
1 red long chilly
½ tsp. cumin
¼ tsp. turmeric powder
3 peppercorns
3 cloves
½ “ cinnamon
1 cardamom
3-4 cashew nuts

To garnish:

Few coriander leaves
1 browned onion


Clean, wash and drain chicken and set aside. In a pan fry all the masala ingredients adding little oil or ghee and then grind into a smooth paste.

Heat ghee or oil in a vessel and brown the sliced onion. Add tomato and sauté until soft. Add chicken and sauté for few mts. Add potao and fry for some time. Now add masala and salt. Blend curd and pour into the gravy and adjust the consistency. Keep covered until chicken is cooked until tender. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and browned onion.

Serve with idly/ apams or rice.
