2nd case against Raveena, Farah for hurting Christian sentiments

Chandigarh, Dec 29 (IANS): The Punjab Police registered a second case against actress Raveena Tandon, director-choreographer Farah Khan and comedian Bharti Singh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of the Christian community on a TV show.

The latest case was registered in Ferozepur cantonment on Saturday. Earlier, it was registered in Ajnala town in Amritsar district.

Peaceful protests have been continued in several parts of Punjab against them despite Raveena seeking an apology, if they hurt someone's feelings.

"I haven't said a word that can be interpreted as an insult to any religion. The three of us (Farah Khan, Bharti Singh and I) never intended to offend anyone, but in case we did, my most sincere apologies to those who were hurt," Raveena tweeted.

The case was registered on the complaint of Sonu Jafar, President of the Christian Front, in Punjab's Ajnala town.

He alleged that religious sentiments of the Christians have been hurt, when the stars trivialised the word "Hallelujah", while trying to pronounce it.

"Hallelujah" is a Hebrew word meaning "Praise ye, Yah", referring to the Lord.

The case was registered under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case was registered on the complaint along the video footage of the programme.

Raveena did not say anything but she actioned herself by shaking her butt at Halle very visible in the video like a hulla hoop she was shaking her hips when Bharthi said halle . Actions speaks the blashemy .

Also Farah 's aunt (Daisy Irani ) is a christan lady . That ugly farah has no sense or manners or concerns of others . They deserve punishment . If in Pakistan they would have been hanged by now against islam blashemy .

i had never liked Farah and Annu malik from the beginning .Both have pride in them. They must apologize back in the same chanel so it is a good lesson for the future shows not to tamper on any religion.

3 ugly idiots menatlly sick inhead .

Dear friends, I am sure the script was checked before it had been on air its the fault of the writer, the TV Channel & others concerned with the show.

Despite knowing Hallelujah" is a Hebrew word meaning "Praise ye, Yah", referring to the Lord, (the word was used from the bible) was taken for mockery and hurting the sentiments of people.

Religion is not to be taken for fun or mockery but to spread the goodness of it, to respect it . presently in India we are facing a lot of issues let us hard work towards spreading love unity humanity around and take care of each other , for a better future for our children to grow in harmony, love, togetherness and peace. Lets take a big leap in changing the world towards betterment, hope , unity in diversity

We should show the love of Jesus during this Christmas Season by forgiving these people who poked fun at our scriptures as they did it without knowing the consequences. As Jesus said on the cross "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing". We Christians are not so sensitive to be hurt by these kinds of words and actions. We should focus our energies in serving the sick, the poor, the marginalized by our words and deeds.

I totally agree with you. It is silly to protest on minute matters.

May be Raveena Tandon and Bharti Singh didn't know the meaning. So Raveena Tondon regretted and apologized.
But director-choreographer Farah Khan who explained the words meaning to Bharti & Raveena surely knew the meaning and intentionally added the word to the script.
We can't allow blasphemy. As a deterrent action, aggrieved citizens sought legal actions on the accused.
We shouldn't be hyper sensitive and take law into our hands. But protesting and seeking legal action as per the law of the land is civilized citizens duty.

If the program had some hidden agenda to Mock Christian faith, then it is a serious matter. To be dealt as per law. Otherwise some one will repeat it with the merit of the forgiveness.

Let us not seek revenge for mocking but leave it to the Lord for judgment as they have mocked the Lord.

Both Farah and Raveena have met Cardinal Oswald Gracious and tendered their apology. Let this matter rest and look forward to a new year with hope and success.

    @ Mr. John D’Mello,
Do you mean what the three did was unknowingly? Then how come Raveena could write the correct spelling of an unfamiliar word?

I’m sure the director must have explained to them before the shooting about the word and it’s meaning.

If similar incident had happened in Pakistan against their major religion, all three of them would have been behind bars under their notorious blasphemy law.
