Mangaluru, May 16: In a deeply moving initiative aimed at restoring dignity and hope, United Friends Trust (R), Bejai, will inaugurate its dream project, ‘United Homes – A Shelter for the Needy’, on Sunday, May 17, at 11.15 am in Abettu, Meramajal.

More than just a building, ‘United Homes’ stands as a symbol of humanity, compassion, and collective responsibility—an effort to ensure that no one is left without a roof over their head.

Set amidst the lush green surroundings of Abettu village, approximately 21 kilometres from Mangaluru city, the project is coming up on a 30-cent plot, offering a peaceful and secure environment for its future residents.

The project comprises a three-storey building with 10 apartments, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore. Each home represents a new beginning for families who have long lived on the margins of society.

Speaking ahead of the inauguration, an organiser from United Friends said, “‘United Homes’ is not just about walls and rooms—it is about rebuilding lives. We believe every person deserves dignity, safety, and a place to belong. This project is our humble effort to turn that belief into reality.”

Another member added, “This dream has been shaped by years of service and countless real-life struggles we have witnessed. Today, we are not just launching a project—we are laying the foundation for hope. But to complete this mission, we need continued support from society.”

The inaugural ceremony will be graced by several distinguished guests.

Karnataka Assembly Speaker U T Khader will attend as the chief guest. The programme will be blessed by Fr Dr J B Saldanha, parish priest of St Francis Xavier’s Church, Bejai, and PRO of the diocese of Mangalore.

Guests of honour include Fr Dr Mark Castelino, parish priest of St Anthony’s Church, Fermai; philanthropist Michael D’Souza from Dubai; MLC Ivan D'Souza; and Daijiworld media founder Walter Nandalike.

United Friends Trust (R), Bejai, which has earned immense respect over the years for its selfless service, once again reinforces its mission of ‘Enhancing Lives and Spreading Smiles’ through this initiative.

As the doors of ‘United Homes’ prepare to open, it is not just a structure that is being unveiled, but a powerful promise that compassion, when turned into action, can truly change lives.
