Karwar, Jun 13: The mystery of the  missing  Kaiga scientist, Mahalingam has come to a tragic conclusion. His body was found near the Kaiga dam, River Kaali, Karwar on Saturday, Jun 13, 2009 at 10.00pm.

Police sources said that the family members of Mahalingam have identified the body and confirmed that it was indeed  Mahalingam's.

Daijiworld correspondent who was present near Kaiga has informed over the phone that, it is too early to conclude if Mahalingam  committed suicide or accidently slipped down from the dam and fell into the river. The police too suspect that it could be a case of  suicide, but investigation is on.

The senior scientist was missing since the morning of June 8, 2009. He was last seen while going for his morning walk.
A five-member  special Navy team had arrived  at Kaiga and search operations were on full swing throughout the Kaali river, to find Mahalingam.

Further  information is awaited.

Really a great loss to INDIA and NPCIl. He was one of the great scientist in kaiga and INDIA. Was seeing him when i was in school.I think this is a terrorist attack and our government should take some serious action in this case. May his soul rest in peace.

I have a very strong feeling that Scientist Mr.Mahalingam might have been kidnapped to get all secret information about Kaiga and pushed into Kali river.Govt.should take this as very serious issue because Baba automic research centre, Kaiga, Sri Hari Kota are in Lashkar''s HIT LIST !!

since i have worked with him when he was in MAPS, Kalpakkam, i am sure he would not have committed suicide. hence any foul play must be investigated thoroughly and impartially without any bias

its hard to believe mahalingam sir hv commited suicide.. he was a gentle man n have a happy family including one daughter. as far as I n my friends know him he can''t do such act cuz we know he''s a responsible person. it must hv been an accident or something else. a through inquiry must be done. sir was very nature friendly. no 1 in our town ship believe its a suicide specially when we talk bout mahalingam sir.. his only daughter a top scholar who recently hd 7 days educational tour sponsored by govt to USA for her dedication to studies. his wife who is very cooperative and involved in various social programs. sir himself at such a big position in office plus lotta facilities earning nearly lakh per month. its hard to digest that its a suicide.
