Mangaluru: Minister Khader advises Kamath to speak sensibly as MLA on water issues

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, May 1: "We are compelled enforce water rationing system due to uncertainty of rains,” said district in-charge minister U T Khader. He also advised Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath to speak sensibly on water issues.

Khader was addressing media here on Tuesday, April 30.

"Mangaluru City Corporation had decided to cut down water supply for two days from this week. The rationing system which was supposed to start from April 30 will be implemented from May 1. In order to avoid severe water crisis in future, rationing system will have to begin,” he added.

“Mangaluru South MLA had said not to play politics in water issues. But as a minister, I voluntarily called Mangaluru South and North MLAs and discussed about water problems in the city. Both these MLAs did not call me to discuss about water problems. But I took them into confidence,” he said,

"MLA Kamath also questioned about not bringing Rs 115 crore for the increase of water level at Thumbay vented dam from 6 meters to 7 meters. It was during Siddaramaiah’s tenure, the new vented dam was constructed with 6-meter water level. To increase the water level to 7 meters, measures have to be taken to give compensation for those who lose land. But from last one year no discussion was done about it. During Yeddyurappa’s tenure only the project of new Thumbay dam was sanctioned, But fund was sanctioned during Congress’ tenure. Being in responsible position, MLA Kamath should speak sensibly on water issues,” Khader advised.

"We should stop doing politics in water issues. Let us pray for the arrival of rains. There was also an instance of rain arriving after June 15. So we should take all the measures to prevent water crisis in coming days,” said Khader.

On a different topic, Sticking funky political stickers on your vehicles is cute but then I humbly request our MLA and MP to stop feeding off mileage off our Hon. PM Shri Narendra Modiji and instead follow his example and do work.

First of all I would like to congratulate all the politicians of Mangalore (current MLA, MP) for their wonderful road-work in Mangalore. It feels refreshing to embrace dust wherever we go (driving, walking) The more dirt we embrace the more we have bath and that is the very reason for scarcity in water in Mangalore. Let us not blame each other but accept the above reason and blame the very society that voted you to power. Jai Hind Jai Bharat.

If water problem is state government issue, MP has no role in solving drinking water? Is he and his supporters drinking borewell water from their own land??? Its high time where MP has worked while t is central government issue?? Fly over fly offs??? Delayed flyovers are the only job specification of MPs??

Agreed. All should keep aside political differences and work for solutions to address the acute water problem.

We urge all political representatives to act proactively to find permanent solution to this problem.

Why are you all waiting till water rationing to happen?

Could you all not address this issue before hand?

On one hand you all talk about hundreds of crores was released but problem does not get solved.

You all have to think if there is water capacity to feed before giving licenses to high rise buildings. Plan comprehensively otherwise there will be buildings but no water.

We urge you all to work responsibly as this is something to do with water, a necessity without which people will die or have to migrate.

Yes it is state Govt.responsibility agreed but same time our dearest MP & MLA should support not keep cross leg & blame ..
They are also equal responsible because for them special water doesn't come from centrel /delhi in tanker. These use the same water from Thumbay
Next when they know they have shortage of waterin thier house these guys want first tanker to give them water that to clean water.
suffers are normal people when you call the tanker they say they are busy plus if you need urgent they charge more .Even the local corporator plays a role for commision
Water tanker suppliers increase their rate & give a cut to these guys .
