Kolkata, Mar 28: Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday pledged that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in West Bengal after next month’s two-phase Assembly elections, the land required for border fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh boundary would be arranged within 45 days of the new government taking office.
Addressing the media during the release of the party’s “white paper” against the Trinamool Congress, described as a “chargesheet of the public,” Shah accused the current state government of deliberately delaying land allotment for fencing, claiming that illegal infiltrators form the main vote bank of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

He argued that the Border Security Force (BSF) cannot act effectively without land support from the state and assured that the BJP would complete the land allotment process promptly after forming the government.
Shah said the party is committed to protecting West Bengal residents from demographic changes he attributes to illegal infiltration, calling the state the country’s primary corridor for such activity. He framed the upcoming vote as a choice for security, freedom, and the preservation of social and economic order.
According to him, the law-and-order situation under the Trinamool Congress has worsened, with women’s safety declining significantly, and accused perpetrators of crimes against women of being linked to the ruling party. He vowed that BJP-led governance, following the elections, would ensure strict action against offenders irrespective of political affiliation.
During the press briefing, Shah also praised Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, for his efforts in opposing the Trinamool Congress and leading the movement despite challenges, emphasizing that the BJP is prepared to restore safety and order in the state.
