Mangaluru: Man held for posting communally provocative comments on social media

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Police have arrested a man for allegedly posting communally provocative comments on social media in connection with a video related to a Quran recitation competition.

The incident pertains to January 2026, when a video of a Qirat (Quran recitation) competition held at a convention centre in Mangaluru was being circulated on a newspaper’s Facebook page. During this time, a person identified as Ganesh Prasad posted a provocative comment from his account stating, “Children are brainwashed and sent in the future to plant bombs in the country.”

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Kankanady Town police station under Crime No. 15/2026, invoking Section 196 of the BNS and Section 66 of the IT Act, and an investigation was taken up.

During the course of the investigation, it was found that the person who posted the communally inflammatory comments from the Facebook account was Ganesh Prasad (41), a resident of Manjeshwar in Kasargod district. He is the son of S N Kabanuraya.

The accused was arrested by Kankanady Town police on March 27, and will be produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
