Bangalore: No Price Hike, No Power Cuts - Says Energy Minister

Bangalore, Sep 16: Addressing a press persons here on Monday September 15, state energy minister K S Eshwarappa said, that the government, contrary to expectations, has no proposals of increasing the power tariff in near future. He also said, that instructions have been given to all the electricity supply companies in the state, to ensure that all classes of power consumers in the state get uninterrupted power supply.

With six of the seven units of Raichur Thermal Power Station functioning fully in addition to a 500 mw unit in Bellary Thermal Power station and the water levels in the hydel power projects and the coal stocks at thermal projects being satisfactory, there is no immediate threat of power cuts, he explained. Because of favourable position, the government did not buy power from the Chattisgarh government, Jindals or Tatas so far, although there was a move for the same because of the precarious power situation some time back, he said.

About the government's proposal to set up a 4,000 mw mega thermal power project at Mannur of Basavana Bagewadi taluk in Bijapur district, the central government has given a favourable report, he disclosed.
