Mumbai, May 15: In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife’s suspected lover by slitting his throat after inviting him home for a drinking session in Mumbai, police said.

The accused, identified as Bhimraj Omprakash Sharma, was arrested following the incident that took place on Wednesday.

According to police, Sharma had invited the victim, identified as Vikas Ashok Bhusare, to his residence despite suspecting him of having an affair with his wife. Officials said Sharma, his wife, and Bhusare were consuming alcohol together when an argument reportedly broke out.

During the gathering, Sharma allegedly warned Bhusare against visiting his house and asked him to stay away from his wife.

Police said the accused suddenly became violent and allegedly attacked Bhusare repeatedly with a knife before slitting his throat. The victim died on the spot due to severe injuries.
After the murder, Sharma fled from the scene. However, police launched a search operation and arrested him within three hours.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime and told investigators that he suspected an illicit relationship between his wife and Bhusare.

Officials further stated that Bhusare had previously been accused of harassing Sharma’s wife and allegedly continued meeting her despite repeated warnings.

Police have registered a murder case and produced the accused before a court, which remanded him to police custody for further investigation.
