Mumbai, May 10: Customs officials at Mumbai International Airport uncovered three separate smuggling cases between May 7 and May 8, leading to the seizure of foreign currency and narcotics worth several crores, officials said.

In the first case, authorities intercepted a passenger carrying US dollars equivalent to approximately Rs 93.45 lakh (around $100,000). The individual had reportedly arrived in Mumbai from Jamnagar and was later scheduled to travel onward to Dubai when the seizure was made.

In a second major operation, officials recovered 17.9 kg of suspected hydroponic weed, classified under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, from a passenger arriving from Bangkok via Thai Airways. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 17.9 crore in the illegal market.

In a third related case, Customs officers detained two passengers who had arrived from Bangkok and recovered 1.9 kg of suspected hydroponic weed from their possession. The estimated value of the seized substance is around Rs 1.9 crore.

Officials said all three cases are under investigation, and further inquiry is underway to determine the wider smuggling network and possible international links behind the consignments.
