Recipes - Onion Chutney

Ingredients:

4 medium sized onions

½ tsp urid dal

A pinch of asafoetida

4-5 red dry chillies (seedless)

Marble sized ball tamarind

2 tbsp. oil

Salt to taste.

 

Method:

Soak the tamarind in warm water and extract the juice.  Take oil in a non stick pan; add urid dal, asafoetida, chillies and fry for one minute; add the sliced onions and fry till slightly brown.  Add the tamarind extract, salt and cook for five minutes. When cool, grind all the ingredients to a paste (chutney).

 

This chutney goes well with dosas and idlis.
