Mangaluru, Jun 12: The department of pediatric surgery at KS Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte, celebrated Pediatric Surgery Week 2026 with a series of awareness, academic, and patient-engagement activities under the theme 'Safe Surgery for Every Child'.
As part of the observance, an awareness talk was delivered on a popular local television channel, focusing on common surgical conditions in newborns and children and highlighting the importance of timely and affordable surgical intervention. Quiz competitions for undergraduate and postgraduate students and a poster competition for staff and students were also organized during the week.

To mark the occasion, the hospital offered a 50 percent concession on surgeries performed by the Department of Pediatric Surgery throughout the week.
The celebrations culminated on June 10 with a special programme for former pediatric surgical patients and their families. Around 50 patients and 80 family members participated in the event. Children enjoyed activities such as face painting, tattoo art, and balloon modelling, while cultural performances by the children added colour to the programme.
The event also featured addresses by dignitaries, experience-sharing sessions by parents, prize distribution, and a cake-cutting ceremony. The programme received an enthusiastic response from patients, their families, and hospital staff, reinforcing the department's commitment to providing safe and quality surgical care for children.
