SSLC blueprint released, pass marks reduced to 33%; extra classes to compensate lost academic days

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Nov 9: In a bid to tackle the disruption caused by consecutive holidays during Dasara and Deepavali, along with bonus leave for educational surveys, Karnataka’s Education Department has announced a series of measures to ensure students complete their syllabus before the upcoming SSLC examinations.

Government and aided schools had lost eight full days and two half-days of teaching due to holidays and survey-related absences, amounting to 66 missed classes. “Eight full days account for 56 classes, and two half-days add another 10 classes, making a total of 66 classes lost,” the department noted.

To make up for the shortfall, extra sessions have been scheduled for classes 8, 9, and 10 until January 24, 2026. Schools have also been instructed to adjust teaching schedules around festivals, holidays, and government programmes, and conduct additional sessions either before or after regular class hours to ensure syllabus completion.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority has finalised the blueprint for the SSLC examinations, providing students with a clear guide on question distribution, marks allocation, and the minimum marks required for passing. This initiative aims to help students plan their preparation efficiently.

Speaking about the blueprint, Devaraj, secretary of the Government High School Teachers’ Association, said, “Four model question papers have been provided. Only the examination standards have changed; the blueprint itself remains the same. It has been designed to aid students’ preparation, similar to last year.”

Significant changes have been introduced in the pass criteria. The minimum pass marks have been reduced from 35% to 33%. For a total of 625 marks, students now need to score at least 206 marks to pass.

The final timetable for SSLC examinations has also been released:

  • Exam 1: March 18 –  April 2

  • Exam 2: May 18 – May 25

Detailed schedule for Exam 1:

  • March 18 – First Languages: Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, English, Sanskrit

  • March 23 – Science, Civics, Hindustani Music, Karnataka Music

  • March 30 – Third Languages: Hindi, Kannada, English, Arabic, Urdu, Sanskrit, Konkani, Tulu, Marathi

The department stressed that despite the shortened academic period, the syllabus will be completed before the final examinations. With additional classes, the revised timetable, and the detailed SSLC blueprint, students and teachers are now fully geared up for this year’s examinations.
