Mangaluru, May 25: An individual who was deceived by an online overseas employment company to the tune of Rs 36.34 lac has filed a case at the cyber police station of the city.

The victim had uploaded their bio-data on the Indeed.com website for an overseas job. On February 16, a stranger sent an email with a job application attached on behalf of a company called Darrell Lea Confectionary Co.

The email requested the victim to send educational certificates, passport, a photo, and a filled job application form, claiming that the victim had been selected for the job. Trusting the email sender, the complainant emailed the documents along with their bio-data.

The accused then sent the victim an offer letter, an agreement letter, a recruitment letter, and a visa confirmation letter. They asked the victim to pay various fees, including the visa confirmation fee, verification fee, and other charges. From April 4 to May 6, the victim sent Rs 36.34 lac in various phases. Later, the victim discovered that the company was fake and that the stranger who approached them had deceived them.
