Udupi, Aug 22: A new Akka Cafe has been inaugurated within the premises of the deputy commissioner’s office in Udupi, jointly organized by the district administration and the zilla panchayat. The cafe will serve delicious meals and snacks prepared by members of the Sanjeevini Women’s Group at affordable prices.

The Akka Cafe initiative, introduced by the Karnataka Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood, aims to create employment opportunities for working women while ensuring clean, tasty, and budget-friendly food for the public.

Currently, the café is being managed by women of the Brahmashree Sanjeevini Federation under the Kallianpur gram panchayat. With prior experience in the catering industry, these women are well-trained in food preparation. A unique feature of this initiative is that the café is entirely operated and managed by the Sanjeevini women themselves.
