Udupi, Aug 22: A police team faced obstruction while attempting to arrest an accused in connection with a case registered at Brahmavar police station.

According to the press release, a case (Crime No. 177/2025) under Section 196(1)(A) of the BNS was under investigation by the police sub-inspector (law & order) of Brahmavar station. The accused in the case, Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, failed to cooperate with the investigation. Acting on the instructions of senior officers, the sub-inspector, along with staff, proceeded to the accused’s residence at Thimarodi House, Ujire village, Beltangady, on the morning of August 21, to take him into custody.

However, the police were obstructed by Girish Mattannavar, Jayanth, and a group of 7 to 10 others present at the house. They allegedly prevented the police from executing the arrest, gathered more people unlawfully at the spot, and used force to hinder the officials from discharging their duty. The group also allegedly threatened to circulate defamatory messages on social media.

After being taken into custody, accused Mahesh Shetty refused to travel in the police jeep and insisted on using his private car. During this time, 10 to 15 vehicles followed the police convoy, further obstructing official duty.

Based on the complaint filed by the sub-inspector, a fresh case (Crime No. 94/2025) has been registered at Beltangady police station under Sections 132, 189(2), 351(2), 263(a), 190, and 262 of BNS-2023. Further legal action is being initiated.
