Mangaluru, Sep 8: Srinivas University, Institute of Physiotherapy, City Campus, Pandeshwar, observed World Physiotherapy Day 2026 with a community awareness run and a scientific session highlighting the role of physiotherapy and physical activity in the prevention, management and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
The day commenced at 7:00 AM with the World PT Day 2026 Awareness Run, which was inaugurated by Raghavendra, Circle Inspector, Pandeshwar, in the presence of Dr Ajay Kumar, registrar development, Srinivas University; Dr Thrishala Noronha, dean, Institute of Physiotherapy; and Dr M. Premkumar, HoD and programme coordinator of World PT Day 2026.






More than 100 students and faculty members participated in the awareness run. Bhavesh Patel and a 10-member team from Mangalore Cycling Club (MCC) also joined the initiative. The run aimed to create public awareness about the importance of regular physical activity, healthy lifestyles and physiotherapy in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, as well as improving recovery and functional independence.
Following this, as part of the academic programme, a scientific session titled “Stroke and Rehabilitation: A Neurosurgeon’s Perspective” was conducted at the Gallery Hall, City Campus. The session was delivered by Dr. Deepak Supararaju, DNB, FRCS (Edinburgh, UK), FEBNS, Head of Neurosurgery, Srinivas Hospital and Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mukka.
The session, presided over by Dr Thrishala Noronha, dean, Institute of Physiotherapy, was attended by around 150 students. Dr Supararaju provided valuable clinical insights into early recognition of stroke, surgical management and rehabilitation, while highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based physiotherapy in preventing secondary complications, restoring movement and promoting functional independence.
The programmes reinforced the Institute’s commitment to promoting community health awareness, evidence-based physiotherapy practice and interdisciplinary learning in cardiovascular and neurological rehabilitation.
