Udupi, Sep 9: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Diocese of Udupi, organized ‘Film Rush 2026’, a diocesan-level Konkani short film competition as part of YUVA DABAZO 2026 – Diocesan Youth Convention.
The initiative brought together young filmmakers and creative talents from all five deaneries of the diocese – Karkala, Shirva, Udupi, Kallianpur and Kundapur– providing them a common platform to showcase their storytelling and filmmaking skills.
The five short films were officially released on September 8 through the Youth Commission, Diocese of Udupi YouTube Channel, under the theme ‘Called to Love, Sent to Serve’.
The films presented diverse stories and perspectives: ‘Chukun Gelli Sheli’ by ICYM Karkala deanery, a suspenseful tale revolving around choices, emotions, trust and unexpected consequences. ‘Akhreche Utar’ by ICYM Shirva deanery, a story centred on faith, purpose and the journey of becoming the miracle. ‘Gupith Sath’ by ICYM Udupi deanery, exploring relationships, struggles, understanding, forgiveness and the unexpected ways life teaches us to care. ‘Hanv Patki’ – ICYM Kallianpur deanery, which explores crime, truth and justice from two different perspectives. ‘Then I Will’ – ICYM Kundapur deanery, a mystery-suspense story involving secrets, unexpected twists and a message of hope and divine guidance even in darkness.
Beyond competition, Film Rush 2026 provided young people with an opportunity to develop their filmmaking skills, collaborate as teams and express meaningful stories through cinema.
The initiative also served as a platform to promote the Konkani language and culture, with the participating teams using filmmaking as a creative medium to showcase the richness of Konkani storytelling.
ICYM Udupi diocese congratulated all the participating youth, teams, coordinators and those who worked behind the scenes for their dedication and efforts in making Film Rush 2026 a success.
The initiative has opened a new avenue for young talents to explore filmmaking, tell meaningful stories and celebrate their creativity while carrying Konkani culture to a wider audience.
