Udupi: Family of Fr Mahesh D’Souza issues press statement

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi

Udupi, Nov 3: The family members of Fr Mahesh D’Souza, principal of Don Bosco School Shirva, who allegedly committed suicide on October 11, have a given a press statement.

The statement comes in the wake of protests held on November 2 and 3 at Shirva Church premises by a group of parishioners demanding probe.

“We the parents, brothers and relatives of Fr Mahesh D'Souza are in deep grief at the untimely demise of our loved one. We had offered him to the diocese of Udupi for its services. We were delighted at his selfless, dedicated and honest service to the diocese of Udupi in all its endeavours. He was loved and admired by one and all. It is very unfortunate that we have lost him. It is our ardent desire that the diocese of Udupi initiate appropriate steps to ascertain the cause of his death and give justice to the departed soul,” says the statement.

“We have not requested anyone not to pursue the matter or legally proceed with the investigations. As we have dedicated him for rendering services for the diocese of Udupi, we sincerely hope it is the responsibility of the diocese to act upon this and expedite the matter. This is our humble request.” the statement concludes.

However, the bishop of Udupi diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo and superintendent of police, Nisha James, during their addresses to the protesters on November 3, had said that the family of Fr Mahesh D’Souza had made requests not to pursue the matter.

The protesters have decided to hold another protest on November 5.

Surely the righteous family people and the Shirva parishoners need justice and let the truth prevail.
A young and dedicated priest has given up his life under mysterious circumstances and the police and the other involved want to give a different picture which is not true. May God give courage to the
clean minded bold parishoners of Shirva to proceed further until justice is given.

The death of Fr Mahesh has shaken the religious, laity, people of all faith and political spectrum. God works in mysterious ways to open our eyes and for this sometimes a greatest price may have to be paid and that is what we are experiencing at the moment. May his death be an eye opener to all that in the eyes of God `nothing escapes'.

Contradictory statements made by law enforcement & victim's family makes the case murkier! Looks like those involved are trying desperately to close the case, which will be grave injustice to the departed soul & the laity!

Family’s bold stand on this is well appreciated. Clearly indicates that they need justice. Shirva parishioners and Diocese should now take it forward. Hats off to the people who publicly said Fr Mahesh is our family member now , because he belongs to diocese. To this, some said emotional people end up giving such statements but fail take it up in the long run. Let Fr Mahesh’s death unite the church and not divide. Dear parishioners, it’s a challenge but you are doing it for our church. When leaders don’t play their role everyone becomes the leader... great move!! Don’t know how to support you all, but ready to.... it’s our church.. we must never allow our priests to be vulnerable to political, religious, economic and any other issues. We need them.. we must handle it prudently to know the truth..

In case, any of the clergy is responsible for the extreme action - God will not allow the truth to be revealed - at least that is what they would pray for. And in case, any politically involved is responsible the devil will strive to keep the truth concealed. In case, if no one but the victim is responsible - the truth would surely be revealed - May the departed soul RIP.

I salute the gentry of Shirva in demanding justice and organising the rightful protests. My heart goes out to the aged parents and brothers of Fr. Mahesh. They must be undergoing severe agony due to conflicting press clippings almost daily. The Diocese and SP can lay all rumours to rest by starting full scale investigations by handing over case to CBi
Will justice prevail in this case, will the culprits be brought to books, will Fr. Mahesh get justice? Only time will tell

my sincere request to parishioners is to take legal route and not drag church in to it. if anyone has any suspicion or doubts, they should lodge a complaint and help in investigation! Afterall priests are also human beings, and if someone is at fault should be punished! On a side note, We seek for good priests but our contribution is nothing most of the time!

What do you mean by people are spreading wrong news? False news was already circulated in the social media about those three innocent young men. Don't you think it's time to clear the air now? Don’t you think his family, the parishioners and students of Don Bosco have the right to know the truth? Don’t you think the departed soul and his family should get justice? It’s clearly understood that the family members of Fr. Mahesh were pressurized to remain silent and not to pursue the case. That’s why we got contradicting statements from the church elders and the police. Why should they mourn silently if they feel injustice has been done to their beloved?

    Jesus at the Temple
Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.
“It is written,” he said to them,

“‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.”

Going by the statement of the Bishop and the SP that the family has requested not to pursue the matter the present statement of the family is totally contrary. Hope the Bishop and the SP had taken a written undertaking from the parents of Fr Mahesh not to pursue the matter before making their public statements. This statement from the parents of Fr Mahesh creates more doubts in the minds of the people.
