Bengaluru: Police torture - youth's kidneys become dysfunctional - family seeks action

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 24: Mohammed Tanveer's family claims that he lost his kidneys because of brutal torture inflicted by D J Halli police here. They have sought criminal action against the police personnel who tortured Tanveer in confinement.

A first information report in this respect was lodged against constable of D J Halli station, Aiyappa and others on Sunday under different sections of Indian Penal Code. Police commissioner, T Suneel Kumar, has already ordered suspension of sub-inspector, Santosh, and constable, Aiyappa, following the findings of a department inquiry.

Tanveer's brother, Mohammed Musaveer, said that Tanveer (23) was riding his motor bike with his friend, Danish in the pillion at around 2 am on April 10 for buying some medicines. He was speaking on the phone when Aiyappa and another police official on night duty stopped them near Dr B R Ambedkar Hospital. Aiyappa was angry as Tanveer did not immediately stopped talking on phone. In a fit of anger he began to hit Tanveer with his stick which broke into pieces. Tanveer questioned the policeman's authority to thrash him without any reason, which angered Aiyappa further, after which he picked up the broken cane and began to hit Tanveer again. The constable then took Tanveer to D J Halli station by Hoysala van. Once he reached the station, Tanveer was asked to remove his clothes after which several constables hit him repeatedly till he lost his consciousness. Musaveer said that they went to the police station after coming to know that Tanveerhe was detained, but the police released Tanveer only after registering petty, false cases. He said that Tanveer was also forced to write that he would not commit this mistake again, a hundred times before he was allowed to go. They also made Danish to slap Tanveer.

After reaching home, Tanveer continued to suffer from acute pain, and he was taken to a private hospital where the doctors said his kidneys had become dysfunctional because of internal injuries. Musaveer said that even after they succeeded in registering a complaint, the police booked case under sections that are bailable. He said that he had wanted the case to be registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to attempt to murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

Tanveer is undergoing dialysis now and Human Rights Commission has been approached. Because of this incident, Tanveer's marriage, which was to be held on May 3, has been postponed indefinitely pending his treatment.

Complaining & filing a case never work efficiently, it's a temporary suspension & he'll be back to work in weeks. I suggest that the victims family should hire a top end lawyer who can bring a top class action suit against the defendant plus some external pressure from all sides of of course this will burn the pockets but this is the only way to get justice.

In many cases people are killed in Police custody but nothing happens. Family members are harassed and made to keep quiet. If there is a departmental enquiry, at the most the policeman involved is transferred to another police station as punishment and the case is closed!

Do not take tortured policemen kidney(s) which is very much corrupted , by the Grace of God someone will surely come forward to donate kidney for Mohammed Tanveer , God is Great ...! Do not leave the concerned policemen without punishment, they have no right to hit /beat anyone, let them check whether policemen were drunken while discharging their duty....

if there is any department in the whole world, which will not improve and function as per norms, it is police department without any doubt.
These constables must be given similar treatment. In mangaluru also I have seen some ghatta constables behaving in a rough manner as we mangas are very scared of police.

Police can wait isnt it?, May be this gentleman talking to someone urgently!!You no need to kneel down when you see any police. I saw in India, when Police ask car to pull over, the driver is going to Police man and giving his record. It is funny inst it? Police need records rite? then police need to come near the car and ask the record. But in India Opposite.!!! Only in India..

Eye for an Eye tooth for a tooth is the best policy to tame these policemen in form of goons.
Mere suspension is not sufficient, they should be kicked out from Police force.

The policemen should be made to donate their kidneys and also should pay for his entire treatment. They should be booked for the offence and should not provided with bail. The police have no right to beat them. Wishing Tanveer a speedy recovery.

Our police policy is not to speak about their deeds.criminell as they are also ther actions.I can only advice them please take a lawyer and file case.otherwise you yourself are not able to go against these lawless govt.Employees.Actuelly they are not supposed to touch anyone leave alone to hurt and beat them.it was like in school days to write hundred times etc.what are they think?Throw them out of police dept.very shameful and sad.Now the police should pay for his treatment.Dont bend to their arguement.let them pay compansation .or donate a kidney to him.
