Yograj Singh - Yuvraj Singh

Chandigarh, Sep 22: His son may be blazing on the field but Yuvraj Singh's father says the player may have a feeling that he has been ignored for captaincy.

Yograj said his son had not spoken to him even once on the issue, but as a father he felt that his son had been ignored in the matter.

"Yuvraj has not talked to me on this subject (captaincy). I have not talked to him on this issue," Yograj told PTI.

"Captaincy is no issue, important is to play for the country's team," said Yograj, a former cricketer.

Yograj, however, said he felt that Yuvraj was ignored even though he is amongst the senior players.

"Some day he would certainly lead the country," the former cricketer said, adding it was for the cricket Board to decide on such matters.

Yograj, in an interview to a television channel, had said it "hurt" him that his son was not made the captain.

"Probably he has this in the back of his mind. He is being very aloof after this. He shares everything with me but I have a tinge of feeling that he is not opening up. He has some king of problem which is hurting him. I don't know whether it is the captaincy matter" Yograj said.

"As a father it hurts me also, because he is the senior most player... But then this is the decision of the board." He said that it is wrong to attribute the captaincy issue to his son since he has not spoken on this issue at all. PTI

Yuvraj likely to be fit for semifinal against Australia

Durban: The Indian team today heaved a sigh of relief with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni exuding confidence that Yuvraj Singh will be fit for tomorrow's semifinal against Australia in the Twenty20 World Championship.

Yuvraj missed the Super Eight encounter against South Africa on Thursday due to an elbow injury, but Dhoni said that the left-hander would replace Dinesh Kaarthick tomorrow.

"Yuvraj had a problem with his elbow but he should be fit for the next match and is likely to replace Kaarthick," Dhoni said.

The Indian captain said the decision to leave out Yuvraj for yesterday's outing was taken just a few minutes before the match.

"We decided at the last moment that we wanted to save him for the matches ahead. We are a side with a positive frame of mind. For the sake of the team, considering the long season ahead, we thought it will be good not to play him in this game." Yuvraj, who hit a record six sixes in an over of Stuart Broad, was the architect of India's victory in their must-win game against England and his inclusion will boost Indian batting which struggled a bit against South Africa.

Dhoni also had a bit of injury scare as he suffered a back strain and even gave the wicketkeeping job to Kaarthick.

"It was just a strain in the lower back, on the right hand side. I had the luxury of having Kaarthick in the side, who is a specialist wicketkeeper. I didn't want to aggravate the injury. I am still smiling and hopefully it will be fine before the next match," he said.

To put it bluntly and the way I see it, Yuvraj Singh all the while has been an inconsistent performer and his performance has been totally erratic. Let us face the facts, however bitter they may taste. This may be because he comes much lower down the batting order and by the time he is at the crease India is, many a times, in a crunch situation where he has to play cautiously to salvage the situation.

This does not suit his game because by temperament he is an aggressive batsman who cannot be expected to play a sedate innings and therefore gets out prematurely. However, a few days ago in the 20/20 version of the game against England, probably he was very upset by caustic remarks made by Andy Flintoff and this may have aroused the sleeping giant and filled him with resolve.

Flintoff must be regretting his indiscretion which definitely has lost the match for England. The result was history. Yuvraj Singh has become the first batsman to score six sixes in a 20/20 match over, has scored, at 119 metres, the longest six and a whirlwind fifty in very few balls. I personally feel Yuvraj (or anyone for that matter) should have his head on his shoulders instead of living in a dreamworld where one exaggerates his importance.

Yuvraj should forget about his captaincy and concentrate on his batting and seriously think of his bowling and making it potent, rather than easily conceding sixes to an opposition batsmen, be it Dmitri Mascarenhas or anyone for that matter.

Mr. Yograj Singh, forget about the Captaincy.  Already too much politics has taken place in this team.  Let Mahi lead.  Now at this critical time of clash of the titans let us concentrate on this game.  Come on cheer your son Yuvi.  In this fresh team of youngsters I feeel allare captains.

Not only Yuvaraj, even Anil Kumble also ignored for the same, and Rahul has been targeted indirectly.

As long as Yuvaraj & India are playing well, if he owns the captaincy or not is immaterial. Dhoni had been an inspirational captain and he is showing all the signs of stepping into Ganguly’s shoes. Yograj should refrain from making such comments about captaincy. Team India is displaying fantastic and all are contributing. That is quite inevitable.

No Indian among top run getters so as no Indian among the top wicket takers. However, the team as a whole had performed like a true spirited unit. I feel Sreeshant is yet to learn from the past mistakes. He should curb sledging while bowling. I also feel Yusuf Pathan a good Baroda all rounder must replace Joginder Sharma in the Big Finals against formidable Pak.
